I cannot be trusted with my hair sometimes. I’ve done some stupid shit to it over the years; burning it with bleach and attempting to perm it being prime examples.
One gloomy Saturday morning when Aaron had headed off to the coast for some sea fishing, I’d been watching Tiktok and came across some how to videos of people cutting themselves long fringes and face framing layers. I’d been getting a bit bored of my hair as it was all one length and dangerously close to my arse – I didn’t want to let it get to the point where I could sit on it as I personally find it a bit gross.
I decided after watching enough of the videos that I was up to the challenge, so grabbed my scissors and got to work. I started by cutting the fringe and quickly filled my bathroom bin with masses of hair – I forgot how much hair I have and was surprised to find so much of it on the floor. At the beginning I was pleased but quickly realised it needed blending in however, because my hair is so long I couldn’t quite get it right despite my many attempts.
I finally stood in front of my bathroom mirror, admitting defeat. The below photo shows the results of the massacre;

It was at this point I decided to call my Auntie Magi – I was planning on giving her a call to catch up that day anyway, so sheepishly asked her if she could help sort out the mess I’d created. My first job was working with her in our local hairdressers as a Saturday girl and she was familiar with my need to do stupid shit to my hair.
An hour later, she turned up with her hairdressing supplies and after a quick coffee and catch up, she got to work. She started by tidying up the lengths of my hair which were damaged from all of the plaits I’d been putting in my hair. Because of how I’d cut my fringe and attempted to layer, she had to make the layers around my face quite choppy rather than feathering it in. Once she was finished she gave me clear instructions to NOT CUT MY OWN HAIR AGAIN and to leave it a couple of months so she could come back and feather it in.

I whipped out my hairdryer and styled it so I was left with the above and couldn’t be happier!
The moral of the story is (as I’m sure you gathered from the title of this post), some things are best left to the professionals and despite what videos on the internet show/tell you, you can’t do everything yourself 😂
