The Fashion Faux Pas of Gabrielle An unconventional fashion blogger trying to find her place on the internet

Why did I need that?

10/06/2019

I don’t know about you and I’m not sure if it’s because I have this blog, but I constantly feel like I need to be updating my wardrobe, skincare, makeup in order to keep up with life. When I started off writing this post, I was finding it really difficult to find the words to say and how I wanted to put it out there – after all I wasn’t exactly sure what it was I wanted to say!

I was thinking back to all of the posts I’ve written in the past and trying to get some kind of inspo for a ground-changing piece of writing that would have meaning, yet also have everyone rolling on the floor laughing. But I just couldn’t come up with something other than “well, I don’t half buy a lot of shit that I definitely don’t need”.

Then it hit me, maybe I would share all of the “justifications” had for all of my recent purchases (whether they’re legit or just me making up an excuse to buy something pretty) to see if I could find anyone else that has a similar train of thought. I’m pretty terrible for doing this and my husband will no doubt bring up the time I went to the Volkswagen garage to get a secondhand car I’d been looking at when my old one died and came home with a brand new Polo on finance with a debt of around £16,000! Oops. However, I have had that car for three and a half years and plan on keeping it once the finance is over (I’ll just need to pay off that extra £5k with another loan lol).

Silver maxi skirt from the sample sale at work

It had pleats which would cover my newly arrived pouch after putting on around a stone in the last 9 months (god damn you coil).

Vintage Nike t-shirt

I thought I’d look edgy and cool, but could also pair it with loads of other shit – it’s also secondhand which in my mind totally justified it.

Laura Mercier setting powder and tinted moisturiser

Everyone’s been raving about them both, they were completely influenced purchases, I was bored of my foundation, I wanted my makeup to last all day and I wanted to review them on here. See, lots of reasons for these bad lads.

Floral wrap around skirt from New Look

The outfit I’d ordered myself for my first day at ASOS hadn’t arrived in time, so I just happened to be in New Look the day before and thought this would look great with printed tees or strappy tops in the summer.

Rope crochet bag from Bershka on ASOS

I fell in love?

White blazer from Miss Selfridge

First off it was a fiver and secondly, you can never have enough blazers in your wardrobe – can I get an amen?!

Black “Made in the 90’s” tee from New Look

The same as my floral skirt, I picked this up when my outfit I’d planned for my first day at ASOS didn’t turn up and wanted to match it with the skirt (I wore that pairing on my second day as I felt it was a bit too casj, only to find out I could literally wear what I want). I also love me a good slogan tee and never fail to throw them away – oh the life of being a hoarder.

White spotted top from River Island

I had some extra cash I forgot about and went on a spending spree – obviously not taking the fact that I’d have to go an extra 11 days without pay due to the job change. I also loved it and thought it would be perfect for the summer; white jeans, denim skirt, black jeans – the outfit combos going through my head made me think it was worth it.

Denim skirt from Collusion on ASOS

Purchased before I started working there, I really needed a denim skirt and loved the assymetric look of this one – any excuse to buy buy buy!

Red Converse Chucks

I’ve been wanting a red pair for ages and knew that I wanted to make use of my discount on a pair when I started work – so they were part of the first order I’d made at ASOS and I have no regrets. They’ve practically paid for themselves already and that’s something I’ll always consider when buying new things.

And there we have a list of my “reasons” for buying the last few things I’ve picked up in the last month. Now I’ll be honest and admit that I’ve actually got quite a bit more that I haven’t had a chance to photograph yet, but we’ll just brush over that for now.

Have you got any wacky reasons for needing something you’ve recently purchased? Let me know in the comments below!

I really love the wrap around New Look skirt and the polka dot top, they’re both so perfect for Summer! I keep wanting to go on a shopping spree and then stopping myself, but realistically I don’t have many clothes that I actually like and feel confident wearing so I’m pretty much justifying it in my head haha. I’ve been wanting to splurge on some Glossier stuff recently as well as I really love their “barely there” type vibe, but it’s so pricey! I go through so many internal arguments in my head and sometimes I do end up giving in, I’m glad it’s not just me.

Ahhh same, I’ve been wanting to try out their Boy Brow for such a long time but know if I try one thing it’ll be a snowball effect with me wanting to try everything 😂 – I think it’ll be a little while before I go on a splurge again after walking out of my job 😂❤️❤️❤️

Waaah that polka dot top is SO cute and the crochet bag! I would wear the crap out of both of those. I honestly feel like I make up so many excuses as to why I NEED new things when in reality I really don’t. Why on earth do I NEED 13 pairs of Dr Martens? Literally no feasible answer. Usually if I’m feeling REALLY guilty about a potential purchase, usually when it’s over £100 on something that isn’t a necessity, I’ll text my mum or Jake so they can validate my purchase and make me feel better about treating myself… I really need to stop doing so though as I’m determined to start saving properly. I do love a good spree, though…

Ahh thank you lovely, I’m bloody obsessed with the bag – it’s going to be perfect for taking on holiday (I found it’s not practical for every day use cos my little bits and bobs poke out everywhere and I carry loads of unnecessary shit)!
I’m the same with expensive purchases and deffo not as bad as I used to be, the worst one was 1000% my car, Aaron went fucking mental 😂😂😂 Also, no way have you got that many pairs!! I’d love a collection that big – I’ve got 4? Yeah, if I include my sandals but 3 pairs of boots. I’m sure my collection will grow 😉❤️❤️

Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time between posts as I have been in the last few months, so I think a couple of weeks is an improvement! On our way home from food shopping last week (highlight of the week!) we decided to stop by one of my favourite spots to take some outfit photos, where the majority of what I’m wearing is second hand (bag, jacket and jumper). I’m getting extremely stir crazy, but at the same time have turned into quite the hermit, I miss going out for lunch with Aaron, mooching around the charity shops and going out to do site visits for work - let’s hope this vaccine helps bring some normality!
And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and let you all know I haven’t forgotten about this online world, I’ve just needed some time to myself after almost 5 years of continuous life sharing! I also haven’t been heading off anywhere glam or buying much to share on here, so today’s snap is a bit of a throw back to just before the first lockdown when I found this gorgeous wool blazer in @british_heart_foundation from @poloralphlauren 🥰 how are you all and have you managed to find any bargain secondhand finds?! ♻️🌿
I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely go I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely gone off of Instagram over the last few months and popped on here this morning for the first time in weeks to see if I could get back into the swing again. To be honest I’ve been so busy with work most days, that when it comes to having some free time all I want to do is slob out, watch something on the telly and do nothing - I spend most of my life on my laptop or work phone, that the last thing I want to do when I’m finished is churn out more content. But I’ve come to realise that’s okay - I don’t need to let my social media dictate how I live my life, or feel bad about the fact that I don’t have certain things, can’t go certain places or live a certain life - because social media (and especially Instagram), is where people showcase their best selves and not necessarily what’s going on off screen. I realised a while ago that jealousy isn’t going to get me anywhere; I might look at someone online and envy their life, but should be thankful (and am!) for the life that I’ve already got - there’s always going to be someone worse off and everyone has different goals or ideals in life, so there’s no use in getting bogged down when I can’t afford to go certain places, have certain things, when I’ll get where I need to be in my own time. I just need to carry on doing my own thing and not let the Instagram envy get me down ❤️
{GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sen {GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sending me these gorgeous earrings from her Etsy store - everything is zero waste and all packaging is 100% recyclable! I hope you’re all enjoying the gorgeous sunshine and making sure your skin is well protected from the sun - you don’t want to end up tossing and turning because you got burnt and turned into a radiator in a day! We went food shopping and out to the in-laws for our weekly Sunday roast, so I’m now spending the afternoon keeping as cool as I can in the flat, readying myself for another week of work in the heat!

I’ve spent most of the weekend holed up at home, sweating my tits off and binge watching Empire, but it was nice to leave the flat to do some food shopping and have a Sunday roast with the in-laws! On the way home we stopped at a field near home to take some photos for today’s post and it was fun to try out a new location, rocking my #secondhanddress I picked up from @scopecharity last weekend!
