The Second Hand Fashion Challenge

08/04/2019
Covent Garden

I decided to set myself a second-hand challenge where I wear at least one item of second-hand clothing every day for a week – I wanted to know whether I had enough items in my wardrobe to pull it off and if not, whether I could re-style the same items again to live that second-hand life. Admittedly, this challenge lasted longer than a week, but I spent a lot of my mornings in a rush after snoozing the alarm one too many times and not managing to snap a picture but waffling about it all on Instagram stories.

I’ve taken it old school with some of these pictures and popped in some mirror selfies – because I didn’t have time to set up my camera and we all love a bit of the old school at heart.

  • Second-hand item – Topshop blazer, purchased on eBay
  • Black t-shirt – Topshop
  • Black Leggings – F&F
  • Trainers – Converse

  • Second-hand item – Polo Ralph Lauren vintage denim jacket, purchased from vintage store H-Town Rags in Hitchin
  • White long-sleeve top – River Island
  • Khaki paperbag waist trousers – Grace Karin (gifted)
  • White trainers – Converse

  • Second-hand item – Cable knit jumper from Hollister, purchased on Vinted
  • Jamie Jeans – Topshop
  • Cherry Red Chelsea boots – Doc Marten

  • Second-hand item – Polo Ralph Lauren vintage denim jacket, purchased from vintage store H-Town Rags in Hitchin (again)
  • Mustard Yellow Jumper – TOBI (gifted)
  • Black Leggings – Topshop
  • Black Trainers – Converse

  • Second-hand item – Faux leather jacket from Topshop – purchased in a charity shop
  • White Cardigan – New Look
  • Red T-shirt – Primark
  • Jamie Jeans – Topshop
  • White Trainers – Converse

  • Second-hand item – brown leather belt, purchased from vintage store H-Town Rags in Hitchin (this actually belongs to Aaron, but still second-hand!)
  • Coat – Topshop
  • Jumper – H&M
  • Jamie Jeans – Topshop
  • Bag – Warehouse
  • Chelsea boots – Clarks

  • Second-hand item – blue and white stripe shirt from Jack Wills, purchased on Vinted
  • Sunglasses – Balmain at Specsavers
  • Jacket – Topshop
  • Baxter Jeans – Topshop
  • Bag – Warehouse
  • White Trainers – Converse

And there’s my second-hand fashion challenge! I’m actually quite proud that I was able to fit in one item of second-hand clothing for such a long time (it was probably more like 10 days) and it’s something that I’m going to continue with in the future.

Do you think you could give this challenge a go? I’d like to invite everyone to see if you could do the same thing with your wardrobe – let’s all be a bit more eco-friendly together!

This is actually such a good challenge! I literally barely ever take outfit photos and you always look so fab in yours, I feel like I’d look mega awkward so I’m not sure if I’d actually do it. It’s definitely a great idea though, I reckon I own more second hand clothes than I think as I buy mainly from Depop and Vinted now – gotta save that coin! All of these outfits are gorgeous, I especially love your Polo Ralph Lauren denim jacket and it’s a perfect example of some of the bargains you can pick up for way cheaper than their original prices.

Ahh thanks lovely!! That jacket is my pride and joy! And it took me aaaages to feel comfortable posing in front of a camera – now you’d think I’m some kind of Kate Moss outside my flat with Aaron eye rolling taking the pictures 😂😂 deffo give it a go – I’d love to see what treasures you’ve got! ❤️❤️

If it included jewellery/accessories, I definitely think I could do this! I really really need to download Vinted, Al keeps telling me about all her fab finds on there and I have some stuff I need to shift, too. Charity and vintage shops have been a haven for me recently! I purchased a few incredibly funky bits in a vintage store the other day and I’m really excited to do some shooting in them hehe. I absolutely love that denim jacket on you, such a good find and you certainly seem like you’ve got your moneys worth out of it!

Ahh I can’t wait to see what bits you’ve got once you’ve shot them! And you should do an accessory/jewellery post for your blog – I’d love to see that! Xxx

We’re now in the process of fixing it up and getting our bedroom ready to move in to, so hope we can get in next week! I’m going to be sharing the whole process on our Tiktok account which you can follow @thealbonrenovation - the first post on there is just a video showing the whole house as it was when we bought it on Friday (it’s changed a lot since then!) - so give us a follow it you love a bit of home renovation! 🥳🥳 #firsttimebuyers #newhouse
When the snow was beautiful and didn’t disappear When the snow was beautiful and didn’t disappear ❄️ what a week it’s been! I’ve been shivering away, heating on full blast and my dressing gown wrapped around me as I work this week - I love the look of snow but hate the cold! Had a day of hypochondria where I had a cough and was convinced it was Covid - but turns out my husband knows me best and that it wasn’t. And that’s probably the most exciting bit of news I l have for you all! How are you all doing?!
Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time between posts as I have been in the last few months, so I think a couple of weeks is an improvement! On our way home from food shopping last week (highlight of the week!) we decided to stop by one of my favourite spots to take some outfit photos, where the majority of what I’m wearing is second hand (bag, jacket and jumper). I’m getting extremely stir crazy, but at the same time have turned into quite the hermit, I miss going out for lunch with Aaron, mooching around the charity shops and going out to do site visits for work - let’s hope this vaccine helps bring some normality!

I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
