The Fashion Faux Pas of Gabrielle An unconventional fashion blogger trying to find her place on the internet

Let’s talk International Women’s Day

08/03/2019

You’ll be seeing posts and news articles all about why women are the best, men should all die (or something equally dramatic/outrageous) and life will be better, however I want to talk about what today means to me as a woman. I started to write this post and felt a twang of self-doubt – do I really want to be broadcasting my thoughts on this? Is this going to reflect badly on me, as we all know what you put out on the internet is forever. But I thought fuck it, I shouldn’t have to feel like that when as a woman, my feelings, thoughts and beliefs are valid.

I’m a feminist in that I believe in equal rights. That’s right, I don’t believe men are inferior or that we should be slamming them for the oppression our ancestors have faced, I think we should be encouraging everyone to understand that we are indeed equal, no matter their gender, race, nationality, sexual orientation – everyone should be treated equally.

I’m not a fan of international women’s day for many reasons (not just this one, but all the other bullshit ones too – have a listen to the Loose Lips podcast for a giggle about these kind of days), but the main one being that we don’t have a men’s day – and no, steak and blow job day doesn’t count, so why should we only celebrate women? Men can be amazing, men can be feminists in that they believe in equality, in the same breath, they can be arseholes – as can some women. I don’t know about you, but I’ve met my fair share of them.

Cue all of the hate comments and bashing for not being feminist enough – why does everything with feminism today have to be to the extreme? Can you imagine the women from 100 years ago seeing us now – how much progress there has been (albeit there’s still a long way to go) and that we have so much more opportunity than they ever had – they’d be flinging their knickers around and whooping at the fact that their bravery kick-started an enormous movement! I understand women wanting to celebrate such a momentous shift in society, but do we have to do it at the expense of men? I don’t particularly like this celebration as it’s turned into something that is somewhat hating on the men, not what it used to be and I find a crying shame. The men that we marry (or not), the men that we need to pro-create, the men that have stood by the side of women in solidarity for their rights to be treated equally – some women forget all of that when it comes to celebrations like this.

So what would I like to see? Equal pay for a start. Women being given the same opportunities and not being palmed off for having a fanny. To not feel inferior or stupid when they’re working, that their voices matter and should be trusted. We should be helping each other understand unconscious bias, that although someone may not actively believe they are treating someone differently based on their gender, sometimes they are. And I’m not addressing that final point just at men. Women are just as guilty for it – I’m sure I’ve got some unconscious judgement going on up there!

To summarise, I believe we as women have the right to celebrate having tits and a fanny (not sure I’ve written that word so many times in one post), to celebrate how far we’ve come and to highlight how far we still, internationally, have to go.

Hate to be a party pooper but there is an International Mens Day – It’s on the 19th November, I know this as it’s mine and Jakes anniversary 😂 I find men tend to complain about IWD because they don’t bother to celebrate their day like we do which isn’t our issue at all. They’re more than free to celebrate! I think it’s a real nice thing as sometimes I feel people are too scared to give compliments in the odd society we live in so it’s an excuse to lift your gals up! You should definitely watch ‘On The Basis Of Sex’, it’s such an amazing film about a kickass woman trying to change the laws that discriminate on the basis of sex for both sides, so inspirational and powerful!!

I found this out after I published 😂😂 I’ll deffo give it a watch – I love documentary style films! I agree it’s a nice way to share the love, but think we should be doing it every day and not singling out a day to do it 😘❤️❤️

I totally agree with you Gaby! I don’t really like the extremity of the whole ‘feminism’ argument and it can get really annoying to listen to over and over.. It’s amazing how far we’ve come and I know there are still more monumental changes to come – which is incredible. We are all equal and we are all amazing and we should all be given a chance 🙂 Great post Gaby xo

Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time between posts as I have been in the last few months, so I think a couple of weeks is an improvement! On our way home from food shopping last week (highlight of the week!) we decided to stop by one of my favourite spots to take some outfit photos, where the majority of what I’m wearing is second hand (bag, jacket and jumper). I’m getting extremely stir crazy, but at the same time have turned into quite the hermit, I miss going out for lunch with Aaron, mooching around the charity shops and going out to do site visits for work - let’s hope this vaccine helps bring some normality!
And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and let you all know I haven’t forgotten about this online world, I’ve just needed some time to myself after almost 5 years of continuous life sharing! I also haven’t been heading off anywhere glam or buying much to share on here, so today’s snap is a bit of a throw back to just before the first lockdown when I found this gorgeous wool blazer in @british_heart_foundation from @poloralphlauren 🥰 how are you all and have you managed to find any bargain secondhand finds?! ♻️🌿
I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely go I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely gone off of Instagram over the last few months and popped on here this morning for the first time in weeks to see if I could get back into the swing again. To be honest I’ve been so busy with work most days, that when it comes to having some free time all I want to do is slob out, watch something on the telly and do nothing - I spend most of my life on my laptop or work phone, that the last thing I want to do when I’m finished is churn out more content. But I’ve come to realise that’s okay - I don’t need to let my social media dictate how I live my life, or feel bad about the fact that I don’t have certain things, can’t go certain places or live a certain life - because social media (and especially Instagram), is where people showcase their best selves and not necessarily what’s going on off screen. I realised a while ago that jealousy isn’t going to get me anywhere; I might look at someone online and envy their life, but should be thankful (and am!) for the life that I’ve already got - there’s always going to be someone worse off and everyone has different goals or ideals in life, so there’s no use in getting bogged down when I can’t afford to go certain places, have certain things, when I’ll get where I need to be in my own time. I just need to carry on doing my own thing and not let the Instagram envy get me down ❤️
{GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sen {GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sending me these gorgeous earrings from her Etsy store - everything is zero waste and all packaging is 100% recyclable! I hope you’re all enjoying the gorgeous sunshine and making sure your skin is well protected from the sun - you don’t want to end up tossing and turning because you got burnt and turned into a radiator in a day! We went food shopping and out to the in-laws for our weekly Sunday roast, so I’m now spending the afternoon keeping as cool as I can in the flat, readying myself for another week of work in the heat!

I’ve spent most of the weekend holed up at home, sweating my tits off and binge watching Empire, but it was nice to leave the flat to do some food shopping and have a Sunday roast with the in-laws! On the way home we stopped at a field near home to take some photos for today’s post and it was fun to try out a new location, rocking my #secondhanddress I picked up from @scopecharity last weekend!
