The December All Out Makeup Challenge

28/12/2018

We’ve established I’m not the greatest when it comes to applying makeup and am definitely no guru, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t got a tonne of it and since I don’t really go out, I have nowhere to wear it all.

My friend Sam and I thought in order to put all of this makeup we’ve got to good use (she’s got a hell of a lot more than I do) that we would turn up to work with a full face of make up for every work day in December. We also had a couple of other girls join which was a lot of fun

If you follow me on Instagram and watch my stories (make sure to follow me @gabrielleannealbon and check out my stories, I’m normally on there daily) then you’ll have seen me share my makeup look each morning and confirming which palettes I’ve been using.

I’ll be honest – I was totally shit in capturing actual photos of the looks until the last week before Christmas, but thought it would be fun to write about how my skills have improved since the beginning of the year when this kind of thing happened;

I really enjoyed this challenge and loved coming in to work and chatting to Sam about our makeup looks for the day. So without further ado, let’s have a look at my makeup looks for the week;

Monday

I’m switching between foundations at the moment as I’m trying to finish off my Kat Von D Lock It foundation (I’m not about supporting her and her non-vaccinating ways, but I’m also not about the life of throwing my money in the bin, so I’m using it up before buying a different one) but for Monday I decided to use my Estée Lauder Double Wear Light as a base.

I used my trusty Seventeen bronzer that’s now started to crumble (hit me up with your recommendations for a reasonably priced matte bronzer as I think they’ve discontinued Seventeen 😩), the Backtalk blush from the Backtalk palette and a goldy highlight from Younique I’m obsessed with at the moment.

For the eyes I used my Illamasqua palette that I picked up in TK Maxx for £12.99 a couple of weeks back that’s got 3 mattes and 3 shimmers. I love the colours, but I needed to spritz my brush with some setting spray to pick any of the shimmer up. I slicked across my L’Oreal Paris Paradise mascara which I SWEAR by – honestly it’s one of the best I’ve used and definitely recommend, I use this one every day so I won’t mention it on each day.

And to finish it off on the lips (after finishing my tea and brushing my teeth of course), I used my Mac lipliner in Spice overlaid with Jeffree Starr liquid lip in Nathan.

Tuesday

Most of my base was the same as the day before bar the foundation which was Kat Von D Lock It, but I used a Revlon Colourstay eyeshadow palette and Mac velvet teddy on my lips. I’ll be honest and say I wasn’t a huge fan of this look as I’d used the same palette the week before without being so heavy handed and it looked a lot nicer!

Wednesday

Same base as the day before, but this time my trusty Backtalk palette came out to say hello – I used the eyeshadows and the highlight for this look which all pulls in nicely together (obvs, they made it a combo palette for a reason!)

Thursday

  • Up again comes the Estée Lauder Doublewear Light but instead of the Younique highlighter I switched it out for the Urban Decay Party Foul from the Backtalk palette. I decided to whip out the old Urban Decay Naked Heat palette for my eyeshadow which I quite liked, although looking back at the photos, I think it would have looked a bit nicer if I’d pulled a lighter shade in from my inner corner as it’s pretty dark – but we all live and learn!
  • Friday
  • The final day of the challenge and only a half day in the office before breaking up for Christmas and I decided to go for one of my old Revolution palettes for a smokeyish look. It wasn’t as bold as I’d gone for in the previous days or weeks, but probably my favourite of the week and I also went back to my Jeffree Star Velvet Liquid Lip in Nathan on my lips.
  • So what have I learned?
    • That I love that extra ten minutes in bed before getting up for work in the morning
      I’m actually a fan of highlighter when I didn’t really use it before this challenge
    • That I quite enjoy putting on a full face
    • You can’t get away with sleeping with your makeup on when doing a full face as you WILL break out
    • You don’t need to have expensive makeup to create a fab look

    Since the challenge I’ve actually gone to put on a full face out of habit, especially so since Aaron bought me a new Morphe palette and only yesterday did I pop out of the house with a bit of concealer and mascara on – what have I done to myself?!

    Do you prefer all out glam or are you a bit low maintenance when it comes to makeup? Let me know in the comments below!

      These are all such lovely makeup looks! I think my fave is Friday too – you look so lovely 🙂 I absolutely adore makeup, but most of the time I hate putting it on (and taking it off!) – but I love the way it makes me look. I’m too lazy! I do kind of like the idea of having to do my makeup every day though.. xo

      I love seeing you experiment with different make-up looks! This is such a cool idea, I definitely need to get back into more creative looks myself as I’ve just done an every day face for absolutely ages now. Berry coloured lipsticks definitely suit you so well! I particularly love the Urban Decay highlighter you used on Thursday, it’s so flattering on you x

      You literally have SUCH fab eyes/eyelids for makeup looks, I really wish mine weren’t so hooded so I could experiment more! A full face looks so good on you, as do browns and rusty colours, gorgeous! I’ve wanted to try double wear forever but still haven’t got round to it, although I hate heavy foundations now so I imagine the light one would be best for me, too! Loving highlight on you aswell, I can’t believe you didn’t wear it much, it’s for sure one of my favourite makeup products!

        Aww thanks, I can’t say I’ve ever taken much notice of my eyelids, although I will say they don’t look good with eyeliner flicks 😂 and yeah it’s a good one for summer I’d say, but it’s nowhere near the amount of coverage you get from the original Doublewear! Xx

We’re now in the process of fixing it up and getting our bedroom ready to move in to, so hope we can get in next week! I’m going to be sharing the whole process on our Tiktok account which you can follow @thealbonrenovation - the first post on there is just a video showing the whole house as it was when we bought it on Friday (it’s changed a lot since then!) - so give us a follow it you love a bit of home renovation! 🥳🥳 #firsttimebuyers #newhouse
    When the snow was beautiful and didn’t disappear When the snow was beautiful and didn’t disappear ❄️ what a week it’s been! I’ve been shivering away, heating on full blast and my dressing gown wrapped around me as I work this week - I love the look of snow but hate the cold! Had a day of hypochondria where I had a cough and was convinced it was Covid - but turns out my husband knows me best and that it wasn’t. And that’s probably the most exciting bit of news I l have for you all! How are you all doing?!
    Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time between posts as I have been in the last few months, so I think a couple of weeks is an improvement! On our way home from food shopping last week (highlight of the week!) we decided to stop by one of my favourite spots to take some outfit photos, where the majority of what I’m wearing is second hand (bag, jacket and jumper). I’m getting extremely stir crazy, but at the same time have turned into quite the hermit, I miss going out for lunch with Aaron, mooching around the charity shops and going out to do site visits for work - let’s hope this vaccine helps bring some normality!

I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
    And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
