The No Buy November Challenge and Rocking My Failsafe Clothes

05/11/2018

In light of my recent posts about being ethical and environmentally friendly fashion brands, I thought I would show my dedication to the cause by challenging myself to an entire month without buying ANY CLOTHES!
Now I hear the gasps, the wonder whether I could actually spend an entire month without caving into my internal voice that tells me I need a new pair of trousers, a top, a dress or whatever. But I’m determined to do it! I will be pulling out older pieces from my wardrobe, fixing/altering pieces I’ve had for a while and that have always intended on doing, but never quite got around to (I’m always willing to do it for others, but when it comes to my own clothes I simply cannot be bothered).
I was thinking about things that I’ve bought which have stood the test of time and thought in addition to today’s announcement that I would share those with you all. I’m aware that a lot of these are jackets and jeans, but they’re what I’d consider investment pieces that I think should last.

Black Topshop Shearling Biker Jacket

I’m sure if you’ve been around for the last couple of years that this jacket isn’t unfamiliar to you. Aaron bought it for me a few years back for Christmas in the Topshop in Milton Keynes; although it’s always got those bastard bobbles on it, I still wear it all of the time!

Ripped Miss Selfridge Jeans

I bought these jeans in a Boxing Day sale about 6 years ago and they’ve worn so well! I’ve rocked these bad lads for years and you’d never know they were old – unless you clock the small bleach stain from when I was highlighting my hair and decided not to change into something else – that was stupid. It’s not often I’ve had to part ways with jeans, but when I have I’ve donated them to the “I’m your cousin and I have no money” fund – see, ethical.

ALL of the handbags

I don’t think I have one handbag I bought in the last 5 years that I’ve simply thrown out. The only one that’s left my ownership was an old Mulberry bag that I sold when I first moved out to help me out when I had to buy some homeware bits – it was a sad day. However, I did indeed sell it and I didn’t throw it in the bin. Obviously it’s because I was skint, but I was being unconsciously environmentally friendly!

Navy Blue Blazer from H&M

I’ve had this blazer for a few years and bloody love it; it’s well structured, fits like a dream and has stood the test of time – I can’t see a time where I’d throw it out and know I won’t need a new navy blazer.

Tan Jacket from Topshop

I can’t even remember how old this is, but it’s been a staple in my wardrobe for years, it’s more of a casual jacket that I wear out to work or during the day, but I bloody love it!
Have you got any failsafe pieces of clothing that have stood the test of time and will you join me on my challenge for November?
Until Next Time

I absolutely love that biker jacket!! It suits you so well and is well sassy. Also you’re a handbag queen, it’s very rare I give a handbag away or get rid of it, I wear them until they break so I guess that’s kind of ethical!? Do you remember when everyone went through a phase of wearing “Grandad cardigans” about 6 or 7 years ago? I bought this lilac one with white patterns on it from a vintage shop and it was honestly one of my favourite things to wear. Admittedly, I haven’t worn it in ages but it’s so cute that I just can’t part with it. Jake has absolutely HATED it since he met me and tries to get me to give it to charity on the regular but it ain’t happening! I’m sure I’ve got a few pieces of clothes that I’ve had for years and I still wear but for some reason I can’t think of them right now. I’ve already failed no spend November though, bought myself a velvet pleated dark purple skirt – it’s GORGEOUS though…

Oooh I love the sound of the cardi and the skirt 😍😍 You’ve reminded me I’ve got an old grandad knit cardi that I bought when I was at college/uni (can’t remember which one) that’s still hanging up in my wardrobe for this time of year! And I do love me a good handbag, I’m sure many people will agree 😂❤️❤️

I have a Topshop Shearling Jacket too and I love it! They’re so sturdy and long lasting! A couple good pair of jeans are essential too – I wear jeans literally every day! I love that tan jacket from Topshop on you – it looks great 🙂 xo

They’re such good quality, I don’t think I have one coat/jacket that I’ve thrown out from Topshop! And jeans are my go to as well, I bloody love em 😂❤️

Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time between posts as I have been in the last few months, so I think a couple of weeks is an improvement! On our way home from food shopping last week (highlight of the week!) we decided to stop by one of my favourite spots to take some outfit photos, where the majority of what I’m wearing is second hand (bag, jacket and jumper). I’m getting extremely stir crazy, but at the same time have turned into quite the hermit, I miss going out for lunch with Aaron, mooching around the charity shops and going out to do site visits for work - let’s hope this vaccine helps bring some normality!
And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and let you all know I haven’t forgotten about this online world, I’ve just needed some time to myself after almost 5 years of continuous life sharing! I also haven’t been heading off anywhere glam or buying much to share on here, so today’s snap is a bit of a throw back to just before the first lockdown when I found this gorgeous wool blazer in @british_heart_foundation from @poloralphlauren 🥰 how are you all and have you managed to find any bargain secondhand finds?! ♻️🌿
I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely go I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely gone off of Instagram over the last few months and popped on here this morning for the first time in weeks to see if I could get back into the swing again. To be honest I’ve been so busy with work most days, that when it comes to having some free time all I want to do is slob out, watch something on the telly and do nothing - I spend most of my life on my laptop or work phone, that the last thing I want to do when I’m finished is churn out more content. But I’ve come to realise that’s okay - I don’t need to let my social media dictate how I live my life, or feel bad about the fact that I don’t have certain things, can’t go certain places or live a certain life - because social media (and especially Instagram), is where people showcase their best selves and not necessarily what’s going on off screen. I realised a while ago that jealousy isn’t going to get me anywhere; I might look at someone online and envy their life, but should be thankful (and am!) for the life that I’ve already got - there’s always going to be someone worse off and everyone has different goals or ideals in life, so there’s no use in getting bogged down when I can’t afford to go certain places, have certain things, when I’ll get where I need to be in my own time. I just need to carry on doing my own thing and not let the Instagram envy get me down ❤️
{GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sen {GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sending me these gorgeous earrings from her Etsy store - everything is zero waste and all packaging is 100% recyclable! I hope you’re all enjoying the gorgeous sunshine and making sure your skin is well protected from the sun - you don’t want to end up tossing and turning because you got burnt and turned into a radiator in a day! We went food shopping and out to the in-laws for our weekly Sunday roast, so I’m now spending the afternoon keeping as cool as I can in the flat, readying myself for another week of work in the heat!

I’ve spent most of the weekend holed up at home, sweating my tits off and binge watching Empire, but it was nice to leave the flat to do some food shopping and have a Sunday roast with the in-laws! On the way home we stopped at a field near home to take some photos for today’s post and it was fun to try out a new location, rocking my #secondhanddress I picked up from @scopecharity last weekend!
