Inthefrow’s The New Fashion Rules

09/11/2018

I’m a sucker for a good book, but give me a book about fashion and I’m running up to the tills like a loon or pre-ordering that shit pronto. So when Victoria Magrath (best known as inthefrow) announced she was going to be releasing a book all about fashion in the last twenty years, you can bet your bottom dollar that this girl was going to be clicking straight into Amazon to get her copy on the day of release.
As soon as the 2nd of November rolled around, I was anxiously checking my phone for an email from Amazon confirming the time of my delivery (it didn’t come, but it luckily got delivered to a neighbour when I’d popped out for a couple of hours) as I really wanted this book. If you follow Victoria on her blog, YouTube channel or any of her socials, you’ll know she is the ultimate blogger queen of fashion; not only does she run her luxury fashion blog inthefrow.com, she vlogs, travels the world with her (just recently!) fiancé, creates content for some of the most prestigious brands, writes a column for Glamour magazine, has been seen on the front rows of many fashion weeks and is ultimate goals! Not only all of that, but now she’s a bloody author too – how on earth does this woman function?!

Anyway, enough of my fan-girl gushing, I want to talk about the book. The New Fashion Rules is a book that I wish was around when I was studying fashion design at university some eight years ago; it covers so much more than what you’d initially think of when someone mentions a book about fashion where you’d think there would be a lot of styling tips or simply an extension of somebody’s Instagram page.
But The New Fashion Rules is so much more than that, there are intellectual observations about the impact the digital world has had on fashion in the last 20 years; from the first luxury brands branching out into selling online, bloggers taking over the frow (that’s front row in fashion shows, just in case you’re not down with the lingo), tips on blogging and social media to adapting with the times.

I came away from reading the book feeling more inspired to continue reaching as high as I possibly can with this blog and love that there are reminders throughout that there is room for more talent to join the ranks of the high flying bloggers.
From a superficial point of view, the cover is stunning and is the perfect coffee table book (I said this to Aaron and he didn’t know what a coffee table book even meant, probably because ours was covered in dishes from where I’d served up some burritos), but the imagery inside is gorgeous too; there are some stunning shots of Victoria as well as some beautiful sketches, photos of significant movements in the fashion industry, designers, models and fellow bloggers.

This book isn’t all about Victoria and as much as I still would have loved it if it was, I think I enjoyed it more because it was a beneficial read, had a lot of interesting topics to spur on conversations in the fashion industry (the whole journalists versus bloggers debate, the change in attitude towards the use of real furs – there’s a huge variety) and showed she’s not just a pretty face, which I think is why she’s had such an amazing impact on the fashion industry today.

I would 100% recommend this book to anyone that has a passion for fashion, whether you’re an enthusiast, student, blogger, whatever, it’s got something in it for everyone.
I’d also like to give another fan girl shout out to say thank you to Victoria for acknowledging my posts about the book on social media. It means a lot when someone with such a huge following takes the time to reply, share (I put a video up on my Instagram stories and lost my shit when she shared it to her own 😂) and give their thanks, being kind doesn’t cost anything and if someone as huge as her can do it, I think we all can.
You can pick up a copy pretty much anywhere now, but here’s a link to it here.
Let me know whether you’ve managed to give the book a read in the comments below, if you have then I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Until Next Time

Gotta be honest, I don’t and never really have followed Victoria. I absolutely love fashion but because I’ve never really been one to follow trends, I don’t think I really properly follow anyone for inspiration in that area. Despite this, she seems like a really lovely person and I adored her recent upload about people buying followers! After reading this review, I am SO intrigued and tempted by this book. I can’t say I’m that well educated on the ins and outs of fashion, I kind of just wear what I want and what I think looks good and throw in something a bit quirky for good measure, you know me. Think I might throw this link my brothers way for Christmas…

Deffo throw it his way – it’s such a good read even if you’re not a follower of trends and covers so much more than just fashion! She is really lovely and I’m more of a trend admirer – she’s got a wardrobe to die for 😂❤️❤️

We’re now in the process of fixing it up and getting our bedroom ready to move in to, so hope we can get in next week! I’m going to be sharing the whole process on our Tiktok account which you can follow @thealbonrenovation - the first post on there is just a video showing the whole house as it was when we bought it on Friday (it’s changed a lot since then!) - so give us a follow it you love a bit of home renovation! 🥳🥳 #firsttimebuyers #newhouse
When the snow was beautiful and didn’t disappear When the snow was beautiful and didn’t disappear ❄️ what a week it’s been! I’ve been shivering away, heating on full blast and my dressing gown wrapped around me as I work this week - I love the look of snow but hate the cold! Had a day of hypochondria where I had a cough and was convinced it was Covid - but turns out my husband knows me best and that it wasn’t. And that’s probably the most exciting bit of news I l have for you all! How are you all doing?!
Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time between posts as I have been in the last few months, so I think a couple of weeks is an improvement! On our way home from food shopping last week (highlight of the week!) we decided to stop by one of my favourite spots to take some outfit photos, where the majority of what I’m wearing is second hand (bag, jacket and jumper). I’m getting extremely stir crazy, but at the same time have turned into quite the hermit, I miss going out for lunch with Aaron, mooching around the charity shops and going out to do site visits for work - let’s hope this vaccine helps bring some normality!
And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
