Coping with adult acne – one year on

I’m a huge fan of the Timehop app and have been getting quite a lot of notifications for photos and posts where I shared an honest view of how adult acne had impacted my life. I’ve written a few posts about it since then including upping my skincare game, update on my skin pre-wedding and update on my acne scarring post-wedding but these snaps made me realise how bad my skin had gotten – I’d always known it wasn’t great but didn’t want to delve back into such a hard time of my life.

I thought I would put together an update for anyone that feels their adult acne will never end and have shown my journey from my worst to my best (I say best, but it’s not perfect and nor would I ever try to fool you into thinking it was). As a reminder, here are the images from last year;

I’ve included a couple from earlier on this year to give another look at what I was dealing with.

I’ll be honest, looking at the earlier photos makes me want to cry. I’d love to make a joke about it like I normally would, but I honestly felt hideous and like there would never be a time where I felt like myself again. I was going through a shit time with work and my health, so it was all coming out on my face – I think you can even see it in the expression!

A lot’s happened since then; I changed roles at work, I started driving again, I got married and went on my honeymoon, I got a diagnosis for my leg tremble and have started medication to stop it – it’s almost like I’m a different person to the one pictured above.

Now

I’m not going to tell you that there’s a magic cream that makes everything go away as I’d be lying (you can still see I’ve got a couple of hormonal spots on my forehead and chin – for fuck’s sake!) but I will say that changing your lifestyle is key to helping you on your way. I tried loads of lotions and potions (I’d definitely recommend trying Deciem’s The Ordinary range and L’Oréal Pure Flowers face wash) but only really started to notice a difference when I felt happier and content.

Now I’ve got to figure out if my coil is causing my face to become greasy enough to heat it up and fry a full English on it 😉

    Gaby I actually cannot believe how much your skin has changed in such a short amount of time! It’s so lovely to read that you are feeling much happier and mentally are in a much better place. You look absolutely gorgeous (as you always have) but I must say your happiness really radiates now! Lovely, positive post 🙂

      Ahh thank you lovely, sometimes I look back and can’t believe that that’s me in those photos! Mental health can do all sorts of shit to your body! ❤️❤️

    Your skin is looking amazing! There’s definitely such a noticeable difference. I absolutely love the L’Oreal face wash you mentioned, it smells absolutely fab and always leaves my skin feeling super soft. I’m so glad you’re in a happier place as stress can definitely take its toll in so many ways, our skin definitely being one of them. You’re glowing girl! x

      Thank you lovely! And yes, I bloody love that stuff, my face always feels so much nicer after I’ve used it! So much happier that it’s better and I’m not as much of a stresshead like last year! ❤️❤️
