Understanding fishing – a guide for fishing widows (part two)

05/09/2018

Continuing on from last week’s post in the three part series (make sure to check out my guide to fishing lingo for fishing widows if you haven’t already!) I’m here today to talk about the process your relationship will go through when you’re in a relationship with someone that is an angler/fisherman.

The relationship process

Fishing Widow Relationship Stages
When Aaron first started fishing, I felt abandoned – we didn’t live together and he would spend as much time fishing as humanly possible. We would row, I’d cry that he didn’t love me (it’s hilarious thinking about it now) and would rather fish than spend time with me. A tad dramatic, yes. Abandoned is quite a strong word, but as a hormonal teen and eventually a young woman, that was my reality and I’m sure that a newly widowed partner to fishing will understand the turmoil.
He ended up getting into a routine that I could cope with and as the years went by, I started to accept that this was a part of our lives, whether I liked it or not. I’d come along for a night (or two if I was feeling brave about not missing my bed and a toilet – note, it’s very rare you’ll go to a sought after lake that has a toilet, let alone a portaloo) and started to see the reason he was hooked (lol), it was all about the anticipation of catching something huge, it wasn’t a hobby, it was a sport! We even ended up going to a lake in France a couple of years back for our holiday (Aaron’s friend owns a house with a lake out there that we rented for a week – I couldn’t handle sleeping by the lake on an uncomfortable bedchair so agreed as I’d have a cosy bed for the night) where I laid back with a book in the sun, helped catch a few fish and enjoyed the tranquility.

Some see it as boring (which I fully appreciate – I don’t particularly like it, but can see why Aaron enjoys it); it’s time away from real life, back to nature, for some it’s catching up with mates that share the same passion and having a laugh at someone accidentally falling in – this has happened when Aaron’s been around a couple of times (see below photo of my cousin Stuart/Aaron’s best man after falling in);

Aaron currently fishes a lake with a rota meaning he can fish the lake every other weekend. When he moved in with me almost 4 years ago, the fishing started to become less of an issue and I can’t tell you how different life was before then! I sometimes look forward to that time apart as I get to do some of my own things (not all the time – I always miss him!) and when Sunday morning rolls around – yes, he goes for two nights most of the time – I always run to the front door and jump up for a hug and kiss. Now what’s better than that? I’m finally at the stage of ACCEPTANCE.
Make sure to stay tuned for the final instalment in the Understanding Fishing – a guide for fishing widows series and let me know in the comments if you’ve got anything you want to know!

    I’ve never tried fishing before, but I can’t imagine I’d enjoy it all that much because I get cold easily and I’m the most impatient person you’ll ever meet haha! I can so see why people do fish though 🙂 xo

    These fishing posts are making me giggle! I think it’s super important to have your own hobbies in a relationship and this sounds like it’s really important to him. When Jake was in a band he was super dedicated to aswell as working full time and living on the complete other side of Bristol I used to feel the same when he’d spend hours and hours practicing with them when I felt like it was taking up our minimal valuable time together but it is definitely recognising that one day things will be easier when we do move in! It actually sounds really nice to go out into nature and just super chill out for a while!

      Ahh I’m glad you’re enjoying them – I was hoping they’d make everyone laugh and not just those fellow fishing widows 😂 and it’s so difficult at the beginning when they take up hobbies, but definitely gets easier when you move in together! Hobbies are definitely good for both people in a relationship to have – I’ll bet having your blog and photography makes it so much easier! ❤️❤️

Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time between posts as I have been in the last few months, so I think a couple of weeks is an improvement! On our way home from food shopping last week (highlight of the week!) we decided to stop by one of my favourite spots to take some outfit photos, where the majority of what I’m wearing is second hand (bag, jacket and jumper). I’m getting extremely stir crazy, but at the same time have turned into quite the hermit, I miss going out for lunch with Aaron, mooching around the charity shops and going out to do site visits for work - let’s hope this vaccine helps bring some normality!
And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and let you all know I haven’t forgotten about this online world, I’ve just needed some time to myself after almost 5 years of continuous life sharing! I also haven’t been heading off anywhere glam or buying much to share on here, so today’s snap is a bit of a throw back to just before the first lockdown when I found this gorgeous wool blazer in @british_heart_foundation from @poloralphlauren 🥰 how are you all and have you managed to find any bargain secondhand finds?! ♻️🌿
I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely go I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely gone off of Instagram over the last few months and popped on here this morning for the first time in weeks to see if I could get back into the swing again. To be honest I’ve been so busy with work most days, that when it comes to having some free time all I want to do is slob out, watch something on the telly and do nothing - I spend most of my life on my laptop or work phone, that the last thing I want to do when I’m finished is churn out more content. But I’ve come to realise that’s okay - I don’t need to let my social media dictate how I live my life, or feel bad about the fact that I don’t have certain things, can’t go certain places or live a certain life - because social media (and especially Instagram), is where people showcase their best selves and not necessarily what’s going on off screen. I realised a while ago that jealousy isn’t going to get me anywhere; I might look at someone online and envy their life, but should be thankful (and am!) for the life that I’ve already got - there’s always going to be someone worse off and everyone has different goals or ideals in life, so there’s no use in getting bogged down when I can’t afford to go certain places, have certain things, when I’ll get where I need to be in my own time. I just need to carry on doing my own thing and not let the Instagram envy get me down ❤️
{GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sen {GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sending me these gorgeous earrings from her Etsy store - everything is zero waste and all packaging is 100% recyclable! I hope you’re all enjoying the gorgeous sunshine and making sure your skin is well protected from the sun - you don’t want to end up tossing and turning because you got burnt and turned into a radiator in a day! We went food shopping and out to the in-laws for our weekly Sunday roast, so I’m now spending the afternoon keeping as cool as I can in the flat, readying myself for another week of work in the heat!

I’ve spent most of the weekend holed up at home, sweating my tits off and binge watching Empire, but it was nice to leave the flat to do some food shopping and have a Sunday roast with the in-laws! On the way home we stopped at a field near home to take some photos for today’s post and it was fun to try out a new location, rocking my #secondhanddress I picked up from @scopecharity last weekend!
