The Fashion Faux Pas of Gabrielle An unconventional fashion blogger trying to find her place on the internet

To chop or not to chop? That is the question

01/08/2018
wedding hair

I’ve spent many years trying to grow my hair and now I don’t have the excuse of having it long for the wedding, I’m not quite sure whether I should take the plunge and cut a fair bit off, or keep on growing it until it hits my bum.

Part of me is fed up with having the same old styles and yearns for something a bit different, the other bloody loves swishing my hair around like Elle Macpherson on an old episode of Britain’s Next Top Model – it’s just unfortunate that it would take forever for it to grow back again if I decide to go for the chop and don’t like it.
I decided to go ahead with this post today after I messaged my hairdresser Chloe to book her in to have a cut – my hair hasn’t had scissors near it for a good 5 (maybe 6?) months and it’s looking pretty ratty.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you might remember a few times in the past where I’ve mentioned that I had a YouTube channel back in the day where I was documenting my “hair growth journey” (Erghh even writing it makes me want to vom in my mouth lol) and for the last 7-8 years I’ve wanted long, luscious locks, so have done everything I can to grow it as long as possible.
I stopped doing all of the weird shit to my hair about 5 years ago (Daktarin cream on my scalp, horse shampoo – you name it, I probably tried it), but always made sure to keep it in tip top shape with regular trims, minimal heat and no more bleach. It did pretty well, but am I ready for a change?

I sometimes wonder if it’s become something of a comfort blanket to me, I was playing around with it after I’d blasted it with a hairdryer before bed last night. I started holding it at different lengths to see what it might look like if I cut it and got very protective – how mental is that? Bloody protective over some dead looking hair that’s definitely in need of a chop and will probably delight Chloe (she’s always asking if I’m having a “proper” cut and not the bare minimum lol) if I come out and say “alright Chlo, off it goes!”

So, I’m in a dilemma and could do with your help – do I cut off a good few inches and get a fresh do, or keep growing until I can get my hair between my arse cheeks?! Let me know in the comments below and also let me know if you’ve gone for a big chop before!
Until Next Time

I always have this debate in my head. It’s taken me years and years to grow my hair this long, but it takes bloody forever to do anything nice to it. I had about 8 inches off my hair when I was like 14 and sat in my room crying about it for weeks. I think if you’re gonna do it, do it gradually x

You must have read my mind as I only got a couple of inches that needed to come off chopped earlier 😂 it’s not short, but it’s not anywhere near as long! But looks so much healthier now! Xx

It’s a tricky one because your hair is so gorgeous! and something i’ve always dreamt of, but equally it nice to change it up occasionally. I say go for it and embrace the chop! It’ll grow back in no time anyway xxx

Ahh thanks lovely! It looked a lot nicer in photos 😂 I had a fair bit cut off in the end and couldn’t be happier – looks so much thicker and healthier now! ❤️

I’d say don’t go too short but have a healthy few inches off! I get protective over my hair too but mostly because it’s in such a damn state at the moment. You’re super slim and gorgeous too so I reckon you could pull off any length hair! If you do decide to go for a big chop I’d say maybe do it in stages as doing it all at once can be bloody shocking, my best friend did it when we left school and cried for the entire day haha!

Ahh I’ll be sharing a pic of it soon – I did only get a few inches off, it’s quite a bit shorter but looks SO much better now!! I couldn’t have gone too much shorter, it would have been soul destroying 😂😂❤️❤️

I’m exactly the same with my hair! I find it so hard to part with the inches, even when they’re completely dead and sad. My hair is definitely my comfort blanket as well. I’ve seen your new haircut on Instagram etc. and I’m absolutely loving it, I think you did the right thing as it’s so much healthier! Still loving the photos of your wedding hair, absolutely stunning x

Ahh thanks lovely!! I much prefer it at the moment and think it’ll look a lot nicer when I get it back to a longer length again! What is it about the sad dead ends we can’t live without?! 😂❤️❤️

Definitely get however much needs to be cut off! Your hair will grow quicker if you regularly get the ‘dead’ ends cut off 🙂 I’ve been growing mine for ages now and love having it long xo

I went for it!! And it looks so much better! I was getting regular trims, but not the amount that needed to go, so it was a big step 😂❤️

We’re now in the process of fixing it up and getting our bedroom ready to move in to, so hope we can get in next week! I’m going to be sharing the whole process on our Tiktok account which you can follow @thealbonrenovation - the first post on there is just a video showing the whole house as it was when we bought it on Friday (it’s changed a lot since then!) - so give us a follow it you love a bit of home renovation! 🥳🥳 #firsttimebuyers #newhouse
When the snow was beautiful and didn’t disappear When the snow was beautiful and didn’t disappear ❄️ what a week it’s been! I’ve been shivering away, heating on full blast and my dressing gown wrapped around me as I work this week - I love the look of snow but hate the cold! Had a day of hypochondria where I had a cough and was convinced it was Covid - but turns out my husband knows me best and that it wasn’t. And that’s probably the most exciting bit of news I l have for you all! How are you all doing?!
Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time between posts as I have been in the last few months, so I think a couple of weeks is an improvement! On our way home from food shopping last week (highlight of the week!) we decided to stop by one of my favourite spots to take some outfit photos, where the majority of what I’m wearing is second hand (bag, jacket and jumper). I’m getting extremely stir crazy, but at the same time have turned into quite the hermit, I miss going out for lunch with Aaron, mooching around the charity shops and going out to do site visits for work - let’s hope this vaccine helps bring some normality!

I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
