We are in absolute paradise and I’m so happy we picked the beautiful island of Bali for our honeymoon destination. The trip here was an absolute bastard and I was ready to die from exhaustion when we arrived in Hong Kong to change over, let alone when we finally landed in Denpasar airport.
We decided to spend a week in Ubud (which is where we are now) that is basically in the jungle, followed by a week in Kuta by the beach.
Due to the jet lag and being over-tired, I find that I’m more anxious and on edge than I would be on a normal day (which is pretty anxious lol) and for some reason, stairs are a huge trigger for me – I’m pretty sure because it’s where my leg trembles started. It’s not often you’ll catch me (okay, you’ll NEVER catch me) bounding up and down a flight of stairs without a care in the world like a normal person – I have to take my time, link on to someone if there isn’t a handrail of some sort and really ensure my feet are fully on the step before moving on up or down. It’s 99% in my head and something I need to work on, but after one day of strolling up and down the hundreds of concrete or marble steps in our hotel, I’m getting there.
Anyway, here’s an overview of what we’ve been up to over the last few days since arriving!
Day 1 – Pool Time, Napping and Dinner
We’re staying in the most Instagrammable place – no joke there were girls posing for hours with their friends or partners taking HUNDREDS of photos in the infinity pool that overlooks the jungle, which seemed pretty normal at first, until we realised that it’s ALL they were doing. We got to the pool just after breakfast at 7am and there was a girl posing in morning light, carefully making sure her hair didn’t get wet, full on makeup, whilst her partner put the camera on self timer, dived into the pool and stood with his back to the camera next to her – it didn’t seem too strange at first, until they did the same thing for hours, went away and came back again.
It’s made me realise how mental people are about getting the perfect shot of them having a whale of time on holiday, when in reality they’re just so consumed by catching a great photo and not enjoying the beauty around them. I’m not sure if we’re being too judgey, but there were about four couples that came to do the same thing within the few hours we were soaking up the sun – Aaron just laid there watching saying “they’re all fuckin’ mental” which had me cracking up.
We eventually got fed up with watching the photo shoots and went up to the restaurant for lunch, followed by an unintentional four hour nap in the room – I told you the jet lag was real!
To end the day, we took a ten minute stroll into the busier part of Ubud, had some Indonesian food at a restaurant called Griya and walked back to the hotel, but not before picking up a beautiful wicker bag that was 100% influenced by my Instagram feed 😉
Aaron had Mie Goreng with chicken and a Coke whilst I opted for a Kung Pao with chicken with a Balinese cocktail (I can’t remember the name!) that had rice wine, lemon, lime and sugar – delish!
As it was night time when we picked up the bag, I waited until the morning and asked Aaron if I could borrow his DSLR to get a better shot of it in the morning light;
Day 3 – More Pool Time, More Napping and a Massage!
The gaggle of wannabe models had decided to take the day off this morning, so I managed to get a perfect shot of the view from the pool – this honestly feels like paradise! We decided to have another chilled out day as we’re still slightly jet-lagged, although we did make some progress and woke up at 4am instead of 3am as we had the day before. We again stayed by the pool, soaking up the sun and doing some reading (well I did, Aaron isn’t much of a reader so spent his time watching videos and resting his eyes lol) before heading back to the room before lunch. It was a lot hotter than the day before so the sun really took it out of us. After having a bit of a panic about feeling sicky and overly hot (it was a combination of the heat, jet lag and my previous experiences with fainting that had me all worked up) we had some lunch and took a stroll down the road to the hotel chain’s beautiful spa, where Aaron and I both had back, neck and shoulder massages. HEAVEN!
We had a quick herbal tea which had hints of lemongrass and ginger that really brought us back to life after melting into a haze of relaxation – I was really glad as I wasn’t sure how I could walk back to the room after 😂
I’ll be signing off for now as I definitely need a nap after that amazing massage, but I’ll check back soon – we’re planning on heading to the monkey sanctuary on Sunday for our 11 year anniversary so I should have some funny stories about that!

Man that infinity pool looks lovely! We had one in our villa in Menorca last year and it was so lovely to get in and just look out at everything ❤️ you’re looking so relaxed and it sounds like you’re having a lovely time (despite the stairs and jetlag). The food looks so yummy too and that little rice mountain is so cute haha! I’d love to go to Bali one day but I’m not sure how I’d cope with that travel, can’t wait to see more updates from you!
