I’m quite a creative person, so when it came to planning everything for our wedding, I knew I wanted to do as much as I possibly could – not only to save money, but because I bloody love it!
I went to a wedding fair with my sister Georgie (and maid of honour!) right after Aaron and I got engaged to see what was available locally and for some inspiration for our big day – but ended up going home knowing I was going to make and do pretty much everything from the stationary and flowers to the decorations!
I won’t go over too much ground in terms of what I made and did in this post as I’ve got plenty of that on this blog (make sure to check out what I’ve learnt about planning a wedding, everything wedding and wedding money saving tips!) but I did want to share some snaps of how it all came together in the end – I was so happy and proud of it all, so I needed to share that with all of my followers!
I’ve got some more content coming your way this week which is all wedding related (I can’t fit it all in one post and need to have some content scheduled for when we’re travelling to Bali!) but here’s a look at our reception venue that I decorated with the help of my Mum, Grandma, cousin/bridesmaid Tammy, my in-laws and Aaron;
All of the chair covers and bows were hired from a seller on eBay – just £80 for 100 which is really cheap in comparison to what you find elsewhere. One thing I’d definitely recommend is having a hunt on there for anything you’d like to hire – it’s a hell of a lot cheaper! We had a huge nightmare with the Parcelforce on Thursday who were delivering them to me – I called in the morning as they’d attempted to deliver the day before to check when they would be arriving. The guy I spoke to said he’d call me back in half an hour (he didn’t) and when it got to lunchtime when my Mum and little sister Charlotte were coming to pick me up to have a girly pamper day, I called back to be told that my parcel was still at the warehouse and we could drive to pick them up. So we went to my friend Hannah’s so I could get my nails done, jumped in the car for a 20 minute drive to Hatfield where our local warehouse is. Only to be told they were with the courier and he’d drop them at the local post office – PALAVA!
We got the hanging fairy lights on Amazon for £16 and I use artificial flowers to make all of the displays and centre pieces – the ivy was from a company called Ginger Ray (definitely check them out for some beautiful party decorations!) and the foam roses were an assortment from Hobbycraft and Amazon again.
Instead of a guestbook, we decided to get this cute little frame where people would sign the wooden hearts and slot them into the top so we can display it afterwards (although we did have a lot of kiddie scribbles on a lot of them!) – another cute item from Ginger Ray.
For the centre pieces, I spray painted some old bottles, tins and leftover Gu pots with a copper spray paint, laid out some cut offs of hessian I had from one of my old sewing jobs, bought the cute little wooden confetti from Amazon (again – can you see a theme here?!) as well as the wooden table numbers.
I also had some white chalk paint and luckily found this old chalkboard sign outside of the venue which I washed down and wrote on – SCORE!
Prepping everything for the day gave me a real sense of achievement and I’m not going to lie, I felt SO PROUD! Everything came together perfectly and I got the rustic, barnyard feel I was going for.
Let me know what you think of my handiwork in the comments below and whether you’ve gotten creative for your own wedding or parties!
Now, Mrs Albon needs to get on with collating all of the pictures from the big day to share with you all later this week! Stay tuned!

It all looks absolutely bloody gorgeous Gaby! I’m loving the copper/rustic feel to it all and the flowers and fairy lights look so amazing! You must’ve worked so hard to bring this all together, your posts have made me so damn excited to plan my own wedding and I think I’ll probably be doing a lot of DIY decor too as my creative flare will not be satisfied letting someone else do all the fun work! Cannot wait to see the next few uploads!
