Managing Stress

02/05/2018

In the run up to our wedding, I’m starting to feel the difference in how I perceive stress, even more so in the last year where I’ve had some very testing times.

I’ll be completely honest in saying that I don’t handle stress very well and have been someone that’s historically kept everything inside until it builds up to a point where I have a seizure (the last two I’ve had in the last ten years have been an after effect of some stressful periods in my life) – being epileptic, I know this isn’t an option and if I want to remain seizure free I need to manage it in a much better way than I have done in the past.
I’m writing this post after a pretty stressful day at work – not a bad life/death stress situation, just a bit more challenging than I’ve had in quite a while work-wise, so when it came on I was extremely aware of what it was doing to my body.
I don’t know if it’s because we’re less than a month away from the wedding and everything seems to be more real than it has been before, but it really got to me more than I’d ever noticed before (I’m thinking yes?) – my body has been aching, I feel more on edge than usual (because I’ve been very anxious lately, I’m always on bloody edge) and just a bit jittery.
So I’m trying to take a step back and chill. I’ve been thinking about the things that make me feel “zen” and calm like; reading a good book, watching a comedy on Netflix (I’ve been obsessed with Jane the Virgin and can’t believe how late I am to the party!) and best of all, writing. Not tapping away on my keyboard, but picking up a pen and pouring out events from the day in an old fashioned diary.

My Mum bought me one of the best diaries I’ve ever had for Christmas from Dawn French, Me – You – A Diary and I can’t imagine how I could get by without it. I’ve noticed that if some time passes before I scribble away that my stress levels rise without me really taking notice or paying attention – that little scribble each day keeps me sane! I’ve been loving this diary as it’s got little snip-bits each month which Dawn has written herself, giving a bit of encouragement and reason to continue writing which I’ve been loving.

I know I need to start practicing mindfulness, meditation or yoga, but this is the start of me trying to control my stress levels – it’s not healthy for me (especially because too much stress can lead to a seizure for me) and quite frankly, I just don’t like it!

And do you know what? I feel a lot less jittery since I started writing this post, so I’m going to run a bath, prop my laptop on the toilet (I’m not suave enough to have bought a bath caddy),watch Jane the Virgin and CHILL THE FUCK OUT!
Until Next Time

Aww sending you lots of love and calming vibes Gaby, hope you enjoyed your binge watch in the bath! Stress is such a bitch and is such a common trigger for so many conditions and illnesses – I honestly think that’s how a lot of them start. The modern world can be a scary place and without being a downer there are so many things to worry about but like you said it’s learning how to handle it! That diary looks well cute and I love the idea of it having snippets of someone else in there to give you a bit of a giggle and encouragement!

Thank you lovely! And Ahh it’s the best diary I’ve ever had – Dawn French is hilarious and it’s great to have a little bit to read each month! Deffo agree there are so many things to stress you out, we all just need to manage it better (easier said than done though 😂) ❤️

I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and let you all know I haven’t forgotten about this online world, I’ve just needed some time to myself after almost 5 years of continuous life sharing! I also haven’t been heading off anywhere glam or buying much to share on here, so today’s snap is a bit of a throw back to just before the first lockdown when I found this gorgeous wool blazer in @british_heart_foundation from @poloralphlauren 🥰 how are you all and have you managed to find any bargain secondhand finds?! ♻️🌿
I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely go I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely gone off of Instagram over the last few months and popped on here this morning for the first time in weeks to see if I could get back into the swing again. To be honest I’ve been so busy with work most days, that when it comes to having some free time all I want to do is slob out, watch something on the telly and do nothing - I spend most of my life on my laptop or work phone, that the last thing I want to do when I’m finished is churn out more content. But I’ve come to realise that’s okay - I don’t need to let my social media dictate how I live my life, or feel bad about the fact that I don’t have certain things, can’t go certain places or live a certain life - because social media (and especially Instagram), is where people showcase their best selves and not necessarily what’s going on off screen. I realised a while ago that jealousy isn’t going to get me anywhere; I might look at someone online and envy their life, but should be thankful (and am!) for the life that I’ve already got - there’s always going to be someone worse off and everyone has different goals or ideals in life, so there’s no use in getting bogged down when I can’t afford to go certain places, have certain things, when I’ll get where I need to be in my own time. I just need to carry on doing my own thing and not let the Instagram envy get me down ❤️
{GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sen {GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sending me these gorgeous earrings from her Etsy store - everything is zero waste and all packaging is 100% recyclable! I hope you’re all enjoying the gorgeous sunshine and making sure your skin is well protected from the sun - you don’t want to end up tossing and turning because you got burnt and turned into a radiator in a day! We went food shopping and out to the in-laws for our weekly Sunday roast, so I’m now spending the afternoon keeping as cool as I can in the flat, readying myself for another week of work in the heat!

I’ve spent most of the weekend holed up at home, sweating my tits off and binge watching Empire, but it was nice to leave the flat to do some food shopping and have a Sunday roast with the in-laws! On the way home we stopped at a field near home to take some photos for today’s post and it was fun to try out a new location, rocking my #secondhanddress I picked up from @scopecharity last weekend!
Finally managed to grab a few photos this afternoo Finally managed to grab a few photos this afternoon and was so excited to share this #secondhand dress I picked up from a vintage shop in Hitchin yesterday, along with a load of other bits from various charity shops! We luckily managed to miss the rain both today and yesterday, so got to enjoy some sunshine for a little while! What have you been up to this weekend and have you managed to hit the shops since they introduced the mandatory face masks in shops?
