The Big Bedroom Clear Out!

02/04/2018

I’ve been having a HUGE spring clean of my flat and my Easter Sunday evening was spent attacking… the bedroom.
I don’t know about you, but I can be a bit of a hoarder when it comes to beauty bits, although I’ve gotten a lot better over the years and don’t have half the amount that I used to.
I wanted to share this post as it’s probably more of an insight into me than my usual fashion related posts; I’ve got some random stuff in my room and there are some funny stories behind why I keep what I do.
My bedroom isn’t ever “messy” just pretty cluttered, here’s a snap of it before the mayhem began; don’t be fooled by the calm exterior of my bed; there’s a mountain of crap underneath that bad lad!

This corner is probably the worst of all; it’s where I store most of my beauty bits and is my side of the bed, not sure I need to say any more 😉
This is where I get ready everyday, so there’s a lot of crap going on everywhere.

Clearing the crap

I started this process with a system; if I haven’t used it in the last year, out it goes.

This old Barry M palette was a prime example of why my rule was important to the process; look at the bloody state of it! I think I bought this about 3/4 years ago, kept hold of it as I always thought I might end up using it one day and haven’t used it in over two years. OUT IT GOES!
Does anyone else have random pots of… well just stuff that they keep around each room, just in case? I forgot about my bedroom pot which was hidden behind the TV and thought it would be funny to share some of my gems 😉

Some rocks I picked up on a beach (in god knows what country), an old iPhone charger cable (broken of course), loads of cheapy old earrings from a multi pack I got in Primark, a little Minion from a Kinderegg, hair grips (because they’re everywhere), old beaded bracelets from many holidays to Turkey, another USB charger from an unknown device, a memory stick and a few old bits of costume jewellery for good measure.
The majority of this pot was tossed, but the sentimentals (I couldn’t part with the rocks LOL) were popped into a jewellery box.

I sorted through a lot of my old makeup, tossed the shit that wasn’t going to of any use to anyone, chucked out bottles of creams, perfumes and potions that had next to nothing remaining and saved some of my good makeup for when my little sister Charlotte comes over from the US with my mum, step dad and two brothers – I don’t want it going to waste and what are big sisters for?!

I came across a couple of random pairs of sunglasses I forgot about, along with my hair extensions I got in my haul from the app Cute for one of my reviews I did on here; I obviously couldn’t continue my mission without donning everything I found right?!
I don’t know why, but every time I have a clear out, I always end up wearing the most random shit; wigs, sunglasses, hats, scarves, jewellery etc.

Some random bits I found

  • Three suitcases under our bed
  • A silver top hat and cravat from Aaron’s Halloween costume a few years ago
  • Car mats from when I part-exchanged my old VW Polo for my new one
  • A broken arm from some sunglasses
  • An old glasses case for my first pair of specs
  • An old sunglasses bag I got from some shades I got from ASOS (the whereabouts of said sunglasses are unknown)
  • Two boxes of clothes ready to be sold on my Etsy store My Fashion Faux Pas (transferred into a two of the suitcases found earlier)

After two and a half hours of sorting, laughing, hoovering and cleaning, I finally finished at 8pm.

After

A tidy home = a tidy mind.
I only ended up throwing out one big bag full of junk which I don’t think is too bad; although I haven’t touched my underwear drawers or my wardrobe 😉

The after photos are so satisfying! I bloody love a Spring clean – it takes a lot of motivating for me to get started but once I start, I get so stuck in I can’t seem to stop. I love your white drawers with the hearts, they’re so pretty. I do the same as you in that I end up wearing such random things that I find under all the crap x

There’s something SO satisfying about throwing shit out and having a tidy space!! It’s one of my favourite things to do and not gonna lie, I do it so often and still find stuff to bin which is quite worrying… I’m loving the funky sunglasses although I do think you rock your usual Raybans the most! I have so many of those random pots with broken chargers and bent odd earrings in hahaha. You’ve inspired me to attack my room properly ASAP. I’ll keep you updated on the progress…

I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and Hello strangers! Thought I should pop on here and let you all know I haven’t forgotten about this online world, I’ve just needed some time to myself after almost 5 years of continuous life sharing! I also haven’t been heading off anywhere glam or buying much to share on here, so today’s snap is a bit of a throw back to just before the first lockdown when I found this gorgeous wool blazer in @british_heart_foundation from @poloralphlauren 🥰 how are you all and have you managed to find any bargain secondhand finds?! ♻️🌿
I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely go I’ll be honest and say that I’ve completely gone off of Instagram over the last few months and popped on here this morning for the first time in weeks to see if I could get back into the swing again. To be honest I’ve been so busy with work most days, that when it comes to having some free time all I want to do is slob out, watch something on the telly and do nothing - I spend most of my life on my laptop or work phone, that the last thing I want to do when I’m finished is churn out more content. But I’ve come to realise that’s okay - I don’t need to let my social media dictate how I live my life, or feel bad about the fact that I don’t have certain things, can’t go certain places or live a certain life - because social media (and especially Instagram), is where people showcase their best selves and not necessarily what’s going on off screen. I realised a while ago that jealousy isn’t going to get me anywhere; I might look at someone online and envy their life, but should be thankful (and am!) for the life that I’ve already got - there’s always going to be someone worse off and everyone has different goals or ideals in life, so there’s no use in getting bogged down when I can’t afford to go certain places, have certain things, when I’ll get where I need to be in my own time. I just need to carry on doing my own thing and not let the Instagram envy get me down ❤️
{GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sen {GIFTED} Thank you so much to @kaolin.kiln for sending me these gorgeous earrings from her Etsy store - everything is zero waste and all packaging is 100% recyclable! I hope you’re all enjoying the gorgeous sunshine and making sure your skin is well protected from the sun - you don’t want to end up tossing and turning because you got burnt and turned into a radiator in a day! We went food shopping and out to the in-laws for our weekly Sunday roast, so I’m now spending the afternoon keeping as cool as I can in the flat, readying myself for another week of work in the heat!

I’ve spent most of the weekend holed up at home, sweating my tits off and binge watching Empire, but it was nice to leave the flat to do some food shopping and have a Sunday roast with the in-laws! On the way home we stopped at a field near home to take some photos for today’s post and it was fun to try out a new location, rocking my #secondhanddress I picked up from @scopecharity last weekend!
Finally managed to grab a few photos this afternoo Finally managed to grab a few photos this afternoon and was so excited to share this #secondhand dress I picked up from a vintage shop in Hitchin yesterday, along with a load of other bits from various charity shops! We luckily managed to miss the rain both today and yesterday, so got to enjoy some sunshine for a little while! What have you been up to this weekend and have you managed to hit the shops since they introduced the mandatory face masks in shops?
