Why I only wash my hair once a week…

02/02/2018

Cue the gasps of horror, the internal cringes, the thoughts “you dirty bitch, how can you go an entire week and not wash your hair?!” – I’m sure that there are going to be a lot of these reactions, but I’ve come to a point in my life where I’m realising that over-washing your hair can take it’s toll.

Fifth Day Hair

Fifth Day Hair

If you’ve read back on some of my older posts or seen my horrifying excuse for an old YouTube channel, you’ll know that I’ve been obsessed with my hair for a long time. I’ve never been one to daily wash (which makes no sense to me at all – the more you wash it, the quicker your hair tries to compensate for the loss of natural oils, this leading to greasy looking hair sooner than you’d like).
So why a week? If I care about my hair that much, why don’t I wash it more often?
I’m glad you asked, so here are a few reasons why;

  • Ain’t nobody got time for that
  • My hair has been growing a lot quicker since I stopped washing it so often
  • My hair doesn’t get greasy as quickly as it used to
  • I wear it up a lot anyway, so even if it is a little bit grease central, you don’t notice it too much
  • People compliment my hair when it’s clean – they’ll say “Hey Gaby, have you had something done to your hair?” And I’ll reply “oh no, just washed it 😉” – always guaranteed a chuckle
  • If I curl or straighten my hair (not often, but it does happen!) it lasts aaaages – no need to worry about re-styling every morning
  • I save a fortune on shampoo and conditioner – what’s not to love about extra money?!
  • I have a set routine for hair washing – a Sunday Evening is when I have a pamper session (usually whilst Aaron’s on the PlayStation shouting at the telly, not realising how loud he is with his enormous headset I got him for Christmas) and enjoy knowing exactly what I’ll be doing. I’m a routine kinda gal and proud of it!
  • If my hair is looking a bit limp and pretty minging, I’ll use some talcum powder to jazz it up a bit and make it look a bit fresher – I’d deffo recommend if you’re a blondie like me as it’s a look cheaper than dry shampoo!

I’ll admit, this is easier to do in the winter where it’s not sweltering hot and I’m not sweating all over the joint – come summer I’ll probably up it to two washes a week, but for now, I’ll be laying on my greasy head enjoying the free time I have from not continuously washing my hair.

I wash my hair twice a week or so, I’m not judging ya girl! totally agree that it saves a lot of shampoo, etc. & it’s definitely overall better for your hair to wash it less 🙌🏻

I wash my hair as less as possible because there’s no point over washing it . I completely see your point!

Right?! If I could leave it longer I probably would, but it gets to a week and it looks rough 😂

I’ve gotten way too into the habit of washing my hair every day which I know is so bad for it! I need to get to this stage of being able to go a whole week, dry shampoo is my best friend at the moment. It’s definitely harder when I’m going to the gym because I just want to freshen up afterwards so I can’t not wash it. Your hair looks so amazing for sixth day hair! x

Haha thank you lovely! And it takes a while to get to the point where you don’t need to do it every day but I’m sure there’s a way around not doing it when you’re exercising (I’m no help there – world’s worst exerciser 😂) xx

I’ve just transitioned into washing my hair less – I used to wash it every other night, but I suffer with my hair looking greasy so I’ve now gone for washing it every three days, which is about twice a week and it’s looking a lot better and not getting as greasy, which is fab!xo

Ahh well done!! It’s definitely a lot better for it in the long run – I’ll probably revert to twice a week when summer rolls around because of the heat (I’m also not exercising at the moment so it’s not too bad – just read your post on it and deffo need to get my arse in gear!) xx

“you dirty bitch” made me laugh so much hahaha, one of my friends washes hers once a week and I literally can’t imagine it with my hair. It’s so odd as my hair is really dry due to bleach but it still gets oily so quickly, I wash mine every other day! I salute you for being able to do it, maybe I need to pick up some talcum powder as I HATE dry shampoo and the feeling it gives my hair!

😂😂😂 and that’s the main reason I started to break it up – where I’d bleached my hair I couldn’t dry it out more by washing it too much so just left it! Xx

I AM SO GLAD I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO WASHES THEIR HAIR ONCE A WEEK! Like you, my hair has grown so much because of this and as my hair is so thick, it just takes so much time!

We’re now in the process of fixing it up and getting our bedroom ready to move in to, so hope we can get in next week! I’m going to be sharing the whole process on our Tiktok account which you can follow @thealbonrenovation - the first post on there is just a video showing the whole house as it was when we bought it on Friday (it’s changed a lot since then!) - so give us a follow it you love a bit of home renovation! 🥳🥳 #firsttimebuyers #newhouse

I’ve been shivering away, heating on full blast and my dressing gown wrapped around me as I work this week - I love the look of snow but hate the cold! Had a day of hypochondria where I had a cough and was convinced it was Covid - but turns out my husband knows me best and that it wasn’t. And that’s probably the most exciting bit of news I l have for you all! How are you all doing?!
Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time between posts as I have been in the last few months, so I think a couple of weeks is an improvement! On our way home from food shopping last week (highlight of the week!) we decided to stop by one of my favourite spots to take some outfit photos, where the majority of what I’m wearing is second hand (bag, jacket and jumper). I’m getting extremely stir crazy, but at the same time have turned into quite the hermit, I miss going out for lunch with Aaron, mooching around the charity shops and going out to do site visits for work - let’s hope this vaccine helps bring some normality!

I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
