I’ve been at this old blogging thing for two entire years today and cannot believe how quickly that time has passed. I’ve changed job roles at work (twice I think?), had loads of health issues, GOT ENGAGED and really started to devote more time to my little corner of the internet – this past year especially. And I think the end of one year, through to the beginning of another is a time where we reflect on what’s happened and plan what we’re going to do the next year. Over the past year I’ve been able to see such an amazing growth on not just my blog, but all social networks connected with it too. I’ve seen which posts seem to work well and those that don’t and am coming you today with some reflections of my own on how 2017 was for The Fashion Faux Pas of Gabrielle.
I’ve found it quite difficult to pinpoint what kind of content you want to see more of – I’ve written a few very different posts during my time, and some of the best performing ones are totally varied! Taking a look at my traffic stats, here’s an insight into my best performing posts in order of popularity for 2017;
- Shein Online Shopping Review
- MAC Velvet Teddy Dupe
- The Fashion Blogger from a Council Estate
- Is there enough room on the internet for another fashion blog?
- The Mysterious Topshop Delivery
- What I took away from Grace Victory’s #Nofilter
- I Found My Wedding Shoes
- Romwe Online Shopping Review
- Update on the perm…
As you can see, the subjects are so all over the place, it’s been hard for me to figure out what you guys want!
I’ve devoted a lot of time to this blog and it’s been an amazing way for me to channel the creative juices which have been busting to get out over the last few years. I want it to be beneficial to you as I know that in order to be successful, you need to gain something from what I’m writing about. So this got me thinking – what do all of the above posts have in common?
They’re all pretty personal, have my opinions in them and some seem to be more relatable than other posts I’ve written.
Based on all of this, I’ve come to the realisation that you guys don’t want to see another wishlist when there are thousands of others out there, you don’t want to read yet another post about TV shows to binge watch (not gunna lie, I have no idea why I thought those types of posts had a place on my FASHION blog lol).
You want to read something which makes me human, relatable and best of all, where you can know that you’re not alone when you’ve debated about whether you should go ahead and perm your hair (FYI don’t do it if you value your luscious locks and don’t want to burn them), to find out where you can find a dupe for an on trend (little bit pricey) lipstick, to get some reassurance that there IS room for another fashion blogger on the internet and no, you’re not the only fashion blogger living on a council estate.
Based on all of the above, I’m going to make it my mission for 2018 to write more meaningful, relatable content. I can be a bit sassy at times (thank you Levetiracetam for making me that little bit sassier – you stop seizures and make this bitch the queen of sassy comebacks), have an opinion on anything and everything (I’ll also make a vow not to delve into political writing – that in my humble opinion is a recipe for blogger disaster, no matter what your opinion, it’ll be wrong) and most of all, I have that cliche “passion for fashion” which (I think?!) makes for a good read.
I’m also going to attempt to delve back into the world of YouTube – no promises yet, but I’m debating 😉
So here’s to 2018 being a hell of a lot better than this shitty excuse of a year and let’s get pissed! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Happy New Year!! I love how positive this post was and I absolutely love how you post such varied content but it is true, people love writing from the heart the most. I’ve never posted anything to do with movies or whatever on my blog for that reason, I just feel like it’d be a bit of a filler/half-assed post for me personally as I’m not a big movie watcher! Whereas for other people, it might be all they do so it makes sense for them. I’m excited to see more personal posts! 🙂

Lovely post. Well done on making it two years and it looks like you have learnt so much. I agree what people need to be able to relate in order for them to read your posts.
