Makeup Fails

We’ve already covered how terrible I am with makeup – no matter how hard I try, I just can’t seem to get it right.

You’re probably wondering why I’m covering old ground here today, but a photo was taken of me when we went out to dinner for my cousin Stuart’s 30th Birthday (he’s still heartbroken to have hit his thirties and I’ll continue to remind him of that fact for the next four and a bit years until I’m approaching the dreaded three-oh lol), which had me completely mortified.

Setting powder flashback

Anyone else know that you can get flashback from certain setting powders?!!

I certainly didn’t and could believe how ghost like I looked 😂 Aaron was howling at how outrageous it looked on camera in comparison to how normal it looked in normal light – so decided it would be hilarious to take another one once I’d tried to dust off any excess from my face to no avail;

Setting powder flashbackI’ve been using the same NYX loose setting powder for months and have never had this happen to me before – so I’m not sure what the fuck happened here 😂

So in light of this wonderfully funny snap, I thought I’d put together some more makeup fails I’ve had over the years to highlight that not all of us are blessed with the magic hands of makeup wizardry.

I guess it makes sense to go right back to when makeup started to become a part of my everyday life, so here’s a snap from my school prom ten years ago…

Terrible Teenage Makeup

Suffice to say, we didn’t have a great start on the makeup mastery journey. I wasn’t fortunate enough to have my makeup done by someone else for the day like many other girls, so little old sixteen-year-old me created this wonderful look.Too much eyeshadowToo much eyeshadowToo much silver eyeshadowNext up are when you can clearly see me attempting to do something fancy – I was all about that silver glitter eyed look that reached my eyebrows (which were never made to look half decent with some eyebrow pencil at least). As you can see, my sister George is a lot better than I am 😉

hello no eyebrows

This continued for a few years when I’d gotten to a point in my life where nightclubs and boozing were life – I’m no longer about that kinda life and much prefer to sit at home binge watching Netflix.

Where are your eyebrows?!Again, some virtually non-existent eyebrows – but the glitter is gone and my eyeliner isn’t toooooo bad?

Bad eyelinerOkay, I take that back – my eyeliner was horrendous and to this day I can’t seem to master the legendary winged liner.

Too much glitter

At twenty two, you’d have thought I would have learnt not to dabble in the eyeshadow department – I hadn’t, but my brows weren’t being neglected.

Eyebrows are important At this point in my life, things started to look a bit better, but my obsession with my eyebrows started to take over and drift further apart as the impulse to pluck, pluck, pluck was too much. Make sure to check out a post from my early day about why eyebrows are important here.

Terrible at MakeupA snap from a video of mine last year when I attempted to follow a tutorial on a cut crease, smoky look. I don’t think I need to say anymore, but you can watch that back here.

Grown up makeup And finally we start to see some more progress – my skin isn’t in the best condition, but you can see I’ve abandoned the silver glitter, my eyebrows are more human like and Mac velvet teddy is a firm staple in my makeup bag.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post and that you’ve gotten some tips on how you shouldn’t do your makeup 😉
