Review Series – Cute App

08/12/2017

My Auntie Magi recently got me to download an app called Cute which is quite similar to Wish and AliExpress – loads of individual sellers predominantly based in China, selling weird and wonderful things (we saw an artificial vagina for Christ’s sake!) but also some pretty nifty stuff! So as part of the review series I’ve been doing, I made the decision to try them out and see what was on offer. There was a lot available in terms of hair and beauty so I wanted to stick with that and not label this post as part of my “fashion” review series. To make it easier for me to navigate and decide what I wanted to try, that I made a list of things I wanted to search for;

  • Halo wired hair extensions
  • Peel off liquid tape for cleaning up around your nails
  • Gel nail polish
  • Dermaroller – I’ve been seeing these all over to wanted to see what all the fuss was about!

I want to be straight up with you all, when you download the app and scroll through the suggested items on the homepage, there are some very bizarre things which do make for a bit of a giggle;

But, funny items aside – I placed an order on the 20th of October of the bits I was after coming in at a grand total of £18.85 including shipping. Not a bad start!
✅ Wide selection of items available
✅ Apple Pay available as a payment method
✅ Easy app to navigate and search for items
Dermaroller

This was the first thing to arrive in the post – on the postage packaging, it was stated as a toy which made me laugh! Fancy ordering something covered in tiny needles and labelling it a toy – probably to get it through customs! I don’t know exactly what I’m looking at and need to do some more research on how to use it, but it was all sealed really well and had warnings about not sharing – so thumbs up for safety! Once I’ve used it and actually have a clue about what I’m doing, I’ll be sure to do an entire post dedicated to it.
Halo Wired Hair Extensions

I haven’t worn hair extensions for almost 7 years so it felt really bizarre to have them in my hair again! These are synthetic as I couldn’t find any real hair ones in this style (halo) but I was really impressed with how they felt, looked and best of all how shiny they were! The only downside of these was the colour – it matched my roots really well, I was expecting to have an ombré look like the picture so it blended with my hair better, but the ones I received were all one colour.
The advert stated that they could be curled and straightened as they were heat resistant up to a certain temperature. Being ever so diligent (for my readers of course) I decided to straighten them using my GHD’s (girl hasn’t needed to upgrade since they were a thing – touch wood). Verdict – they’re extremely long but held up under the heat! I’ve since trimmed them to make them closer to my own length and will use them to give my hair a bit of oomph!
Blue Peel Off Liquid Tape

Not gunna lie, I opened this and thought it was a gel polish I’d ordered and was pretty disappointed that there wasn’t any kind of label to indicate what I’d ordered. It’s only when I went back onto the app to check the order that I realised what it was lol.

I gave it a go, but I wasn’t entirely happy with it – turns out I’m better freehand than I thought!
UV Gel Nail Polish
To give this a fair chance, I ordered a top coat, base coat and a coloured polish from the same seller. I’d not heard of the brand UR SUGAR (I’ve personally favoured the Bluesky ones you can grab for about a fiver on Amazon – reasonably priced is what I’m all about), but thought I should mix shit up a bit!
I was impressed that the top coat was a no wipe (if you’ve done your own nails at home you’ll appreciate the burden of having to wipe off the tacky layer you normally get once you’ve applied the top coat – first time I did them at home I wasn’t aware that this was a thing and was walking around wondering why my nails were covered in fluff #terriblebeautyblogger). However, I didn’t like the colour coat too much and the whole lot peeled easily which was a shame. I’m going to give it a go with another one of my colours, but the jury’s still out!
Verdict
It’s a pretty good app with a LOT of items available (weird and wonderful!) I’d recommend giving it a go for yourself and checking out what’s on offer – you may well be pleasantly surprised!

We’re now in the process of fixing it up and getting our bedroom ready to move in to, so hope we can get in next week! I’m going to be sharing the whole process on our Tiktok account which you can follow @thealbonrenovation - the first post on there is just a video showing the whole house as it was when we bought it on Friday (it’s changed a lot since then!) - so give us a follow it you love a bit of home renovation! 🥳🥳 #firsttimebuyers #newhouse
When the snow was beautiful and didn’t disappear When the snow was beautiful and didn’t disappear ❄️ what a week it’s been! I’ve been shivering away, heating on full blast and my dressing gown wrapped around me as I work this week - I love the look of snow but hate the cold! Had a day of hypochondria where I had a cough and was convinced it was Covid - but turns out my husband knows me best and that it wasn’t. And that’s probably the most exciting bit of news I l have for you all! How are you all doing?!
Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time between posts as I have been in the last few months, so I think a couple of weeks is an improvement! On our way home from food shopping last week (highlight of the week!) we decided to stop by one of my favourite spots to take some outfit photos, where the majority of what I’m wearing is second hand (bag, jacket and jumper). I’m getting extremely stir crazy, but at the same time have turned into quite the hermit, I miss going out for lunch with Aaron, mooching around the charity shops and going out to do site visits for work - let’s hope this vaccine helps bring some normality!
And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
