Wedding Money Saving Tips!

16/09/2017

So the big day is creeping up fast and I thought I’d put together a post today to share some more things I’ve been doing to save the pennies on our big day!
You obviously don’t have to scrimp and save to the extent that we have, but I love me a bit of DIY and would much rather be spending all the extra dollar sipping on a strawberry daquari in the Caribbean sun!
Buy faux flowers instead of the real thing
Flowers can set you back a small fortune and I decided after visiting a wedding fair that I could create my own bouquets and flower arrangements for the centrepieces at a fraction of the cost.
A standard bridesmaid’s bouquet could set you back £70, but a faux flower arrangement could cost around a fiver (all depending on what you’re after!)

I got onto Amazon and hit my local Hobbycraft to bulk buy a load of faux flowers and greenery to create some of the following arrangements

Create your own invites
Pinterest is such an amazing place to go for inspiration and isn’t limited to just invites! I decided to start playing around with my own ideas on Microsoft Word and the Canva app (which is great for all kinds of graphics!) after mooching around online and again seeing what was out for offer at the wedding fair – once I had my design I went back onto Amazon and ordered myself some brown card to try out my designs on.

You can also search for some amazing fonts to download online if you want to be a bit fancier than the standard Word fonts you get, which I decided to do for ours!
Check out discount wedding dress stores
I got my dress at a wedding dress discount store called WED2B. All dresses come in at under £600 which is amazing for the budget follower in me and they’ve got a huge variety of sizes and styles to choose from.
My friend Claire brought her dress to me to alter a few months back, after seeing the amazing quality and checking out their reviews online, I decided that I would take a trip to our most local store in Milton Keynes and picked up my dress!
The idea of it is you don’t book appointments, pick 4 dresses to try on at a time, wait in a queue to meet one of their team who will help you try them on and you can continue to do this throughout the day.
Yes it’s probably not as luxurious as having a whole store/ shopping assistant to yourself for an appointment – but the amount of money you save is definitely worth it!
You can check out some of their designs and find your nearest store in the UK here
I’ve also included a couple of snaps of me wearing dresses so you get an idea of what it’s like there (and no, I didn’t buy any of the ones I’m showing – that’s a surprise you’ll have to wait and see!)

One tip I would share is to try and avoid going at the weekend when it’s at its busiest and get there on a weekday!
Customise your own decorations
I knew I wanted to go a bit rustic/handmade with our theme and that I wanted rose gold and blush pinks everywhere. With this in mind, every time I went out I would search for glass jars for centrepieces and little knick knacks I could customise to fit with our theme.
I got my friends and family to save glass jars and tins which I could spray paint or wrap twine around, letter plaques of our initials and other bits and bobs I could customise.

Don’t disregard places like Poundland or B&M
I’ve found some great things in these places and it’s definitely worth hunting around before you click order on Amazon!

This light box was just £7.99 in B&M – when I was hunting around on Amazon I was looking at spending £10+ for the exact same thing plus shipping!
I found battery operated fairy lights in Poundland which saved me spending more Online plus shipping!

And finally a Mr & Mrs plaque for £3.99 from B&M instead of £6.99 from Hobbycraft!
And they’re just a couple of tips I wanted to share with you all today! I’m sure once the day gets a bit closer that I’ll have some more things to add, but please let me know in the comments below whether you’ve enjoyed this and if you’d like to see some more wedding related content on here!

I’m huge into crafting also. I would much rather make my own decorations than buy them. It’s good to know that it can help save me money as well!😊

[…] That was over a year ago now and we’re now just over four months away from the day and it’s starting to hit me that this is actually happening! I’ve been getting all of the decorations ready, made our invites for the day (I’ve still got to finish the reception ones!), have made some centre pieces and flower bouquets for the bridesmaids using some artificial flowers (I’ll be damned if I’m spending £90+ for a small bloody bouquet!), in addition to loads of other random bits and bobs. Make sure to check out my post on some of the things I’ve been doing to save money on our big day here. […]

We’re now in the process of fixing it up and getting our bedroom ready to move in to, so hope we can get in next week! I’m going to be sharing the whole process on our Tiktok account which you can follow @thealbonrenovation - the first post on there is just a video showing the whole house as it was when we bought it on Friday (it’s changed a lot since then!) - so give us a follow it you love a bit of home renovation! 🥳🥳 #firsttimebuyers #newhouse

I’ve been shivering away, heating on full blast and my dressing gown wrapped around me as I work this week - I love the look of snow but hate the cold! Had a day of hypochondria where I had a cough and was convinced it was Covid - but turns out my husband knows me best and that it wasn’t. And that’s probably the most exciting bit of news I l have for you all! How are you all doing?!
Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time Hello all! I’m trying not to leave too much time between posts as I have been in the last few months, so I think a couple of weeks is an improvement! On our way home from food shopping last week (highlight of the week!) we decided to stop by one of my favourite spots to take some outfit photos, where the majority of what I’m wearing is second hand (bag, jacket and jumper). I’m getting extremely stir crazy, but at the same time have turned into quite the hermit, I miss going out for lunch with Aaron, mooching around the charity shops and going out to do site visits for work - let’s hope this vaccine helps bring some normality!
And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to And the final day of 2020 is upon us! I decided to make myself feel like I was going somewhere tonight by putting a full face of makeup on, with the intention of sitting on the sofa sharing a bottle of Disaronno with Aaron to see the new year in! We might hit up the kitchen, the living room and Aaron suggested the bathroom but I wasn’t sure 😂 what have you got planned for tonight? And Happy New Year to everyone!
And that’s Christmas over for another year (alth And that’s Christmas over for another year (although let’s be honest, 2020 may as well not have happened!) and I just hope to god 2021 is a damn site better for everyone! Since I’ve been attempting to cut out purchasing brand new clothing all together, bar a few items such as underwear and pyjamas, I’m hoping once Hertfordshire is out of Tier 4 that I can head to the shops and do some serious secondhand shopping and use the vouchers I got to buy myself some new beauty bits. How was your quiet Christmas and have you got any beauty recommendations for me? #hertsbloggers #fashionbloggeruk #ukfashionblogger #ukstyleblogger #hertsbloggerlove #sustainablefashionblogger #secondhandfashionblogger #petitebloggeruk #petitefashionbloggeruk #outfitinspo #mylookoftheday #ootdshare #ukfashionblog #petitestyle #hertfordshirebloggers #funkyfashion #ukfashion #ootdinspo #canon700d #canon #amatuerphotography #aspiringfashionblogger #aspiringblogger
