If there’s one main thing I’ve learnt throughout the years of choosing and buying my own clothes, it’s that I’d rather spend my hard earned cash on staple pieces that are timeless and won’t go out of fashion quickly.
I like to be ‘trendy’ and will buy into trends, but only at reasonable prices. Below is a picture of me in a typical trend;
A tassley floral print kimono that cost me about £10 a couple of years ago. Thing is, I would never wear it now (it’s been banished to the shit clothes pile) as 1) the fabric is shit and makes you sweat and 2) the tassles got far too tangled for me to sort them out again.
I’ve noticed that my wardrobe is full of prints and patterns from seasons passed that I just don’t like any more.
Aaron and I popped into town yesterday for breakfast and I dragged him into Dorothy Perkins for a mooch around (I get Arcadia vouchers from work each month 😉) when I went to pick up a cute floral print cardigan. It suddenly dawned on me that, yes thought this was nice now, but after a couple of wears, I’d be fed up with it and donate it to charity.
From that moment I made a vow to myself that I would only purchase staple pieces and spend less than £15 per trend piece!
Its payday next friday so we’ll see if I stick to it 😉
Until next time…
