How old is your wardrobe?

How old is your wardrobe?

Sustainable fashion isn’t anything new, but it’s definitely a term we’re hearing more and more of and I don’t think it’s going anywhere any time soon. Fast fashion is being seen for exactly what it is, cheap, nasty, repetitive and damaging to everyone. So my question to everyone is how old is everything you have in your wardrobe? What is the usual timespan between you buying an item of clothing before binning it off in favour of something shiny and new (okay, not necessarily shiny, but you get where I’m going)?

In light of this, I’m going to be looking at my own wardrobe to see whether I’m retaining as much as I can and not getting stuck in the fast fashion cycle. I’ll look back on the last 10 outfits I’ve shared on my Instgram and will be letting you know how old each piece of clothing is. So without further ado, lets see how old my shit is!

I’m sure you’ve noticed I’ve personally been a bit shopping happy over the last few months and am definitely someone that loves to make use of everything, but I have got quite a lot of things that have been round for over 4 years (and I’m sure there are some older bits lurking in the depths of my wardrobe), so I reckon I’m doing pretty good! Although I have had a lot of new shoes over the last few months (can we take a second to show the new cherry red DM’s some love?!), they’re the items I tend to treasure the most – I have an old pair of Ugg boots that are 6 maybe even 7 years old – I can’t seem to part with the raggedy old things!

So, I’d like to invite you all in joining me on this challenge and to make use of your old clobber! How old are your favourite items and what do you keep for the longest?

Ooooo, I’m wearing one of my favorite jumpers today that you would definitely recognise! It has to be at least 15 or 16 years old and it’s still in near perfect condition. (Yes, Gab, it’s THAT one lol)

Oooh I like the idea of this! Although my Insta definitely doesn’t showcase what I wear every day because 80% of the time currently I look like a tramp hahaha. I’d definitely say I get good use out of my clothes and I’m a massive hoarder but I also like to treat myself to some new things when I can. I added up the outerwear in my wardrobe yesterday and I have over 50 items. I’m definitely going to remember this when I next want to buy a jumper… PS I LOVE THE NEW DMS!! They deserve all of the love.

Ahh I’m sure you don’t look like a tramp!! And I’ve been quite a hoarder over the years but have gotten better at letting go of things I don’t wear anymore, just trying to shop a bit smarter now! And thank you, I’ve worn them so much already 😂❤️❤️

You have so many lovely staple items that are years old, I’m jealous! I often do a massive clear-out of my clothes because I tend to wear the same few things so I end up donating loads to charity as I don’t end up wearing it. I’ve been known to get rid of things that still have the bloody tags on! I definitely fall victim to fast fashion a lot of the time, I’m such an impulse buyer but I’ve been trying to tone it down lately and focus on what I already own. I recently watched Marie Kondo’s Tidying Up show and it’s really helped me to learn to appreciate what I’ve already got, she’s a genius! My favourite outfit is the last one, I absolutely love those leggings x

Ahh I still need to watch that (probably on my lunch break at work haha!) but I’ve definitely gotten better as I’ve gotten older – pushing 30 makes you realise what you’ll wear and what you won’t 😂😂 and those leggings are legendary! Without doubt someone always compliments me on them! ❤️❤️

What I find impressive is how you know the age of your clothes..! I usually tend to keep items of clothing for year’s before binning them (cos they’re ruined and have been worn to death) or selling them on/recycling them!xo

I have no idea why I can remember – I always try to think of why and where I bought it, so I work it out from there 😂 ❤️❤️
