It’s been a couple of months since I last spoke about my skin and now that the wedding and honeymoon is out of the way, I thought it was about time I provided you all with an update.
For reference, here are some pictures from when I first started discussing my skin back in February;
If you want to hear some more about the products I was using, make sure to check out a couple of my last posts about Upping My Skincare Game and Update On My Acne Scarring Pre-Wedding.
I’ll be honest, since I got home I haven’t been that great with keeping up my skincare routine that I had from before the wedding – but that’s because I’ve found the best thing for improving my skin is SUNSHINE! Yep, get me out in the sun for long enough and my acne woes go out the window.
Whilst away, I kept up with protecting my skin using the moisturiser that I featured in my last update post and went virtually makeup free during the days (I popped on some mascara as my eyelashes disappear when I’ve been in the sun – hair everywhere seems to lighten when I’m out in the sun lol!)
Since we got home, I’ve cut down my makeup to just a bit of concealer under my eyes (I picked up a Makeup Revolution Ultra HD one from the store in the Kuta Beachwalk shopping centre – it’s as amazing as the foundation) a dash of matte Seventeen Instant Glow bronzer all over, a few flecks of the NYX Micro Brow pencil in blonde to fill in my eyebrow gaps and L’Oréal Paradise mascara.
I go through two phases with makeup – complete obsession or barely there. I’ve found obsession happens in the colder months when your face isn’t going to melt off, then barely there in the summer when nobody wants to spend an age applying makeup when you could be out enjoying the beautiful weather.
I’m a little bit freckled from being in the sun (they always come out to say hi in the summer) but overall, this is the best my skin has been in a LONG time! I don’t really use the serums from the Ordinary anymore (but will reach for them if my skin needs it) and stick to washing with the L’Oréal Pure Flowers face wash and moisturising with the Simple Replenishing moisturiser.
I think the key to skincare is knowing how your skin’s needs change over seasons (well, for those of us that live in countries with seasons!) – I need a lot more moisture in the summer, but the sun helps dry up any breakouts quickly. I think I’ve only had one spot since we got home from Bali and that cleared up within a day or two. In the winter, I’m a lot oiler and prone to breakouts, so need to amp up my spot fighting products.
I’m a lot happier when my skin is looking good – it’s not completely flawless, you can see my pores, my freckles and fine lines, but I quite like that!
Let me know in the comments if you’ve had troubles with your skin and what you found helped you overcome it (doesn’t have to be acne!)
